Profile | Shigeru Tabata

Shigeru is a qualified performance coach specialising in personal and professional development. In a twenty year career, he has worked in a range of industries including oil and gas, investment banking, TV broadcasting and the United Nations. His corporate expertise is in team and project management and staff training and development. Shigeru has extensive international experience, having lived in the UK, the USA, the Maldives as well as his home country, Japan. He acquired his account and project management skills through working for Mobile Oil and the United Nations Development Programme.

He served as the Section Head and Editor in Chief of the Japanese TV Unit in BBC World for five years, where he developed his team management and staff development skills. Those skills were tested as he led a team of some 40 staff through a difficult period involving severe cost cutting and downsizing pressures. Following his coaching qualification, Shigeru has been helping individuals and organisations improve performances, leveraging his international, multicultural and corporate skills.

Qualifications & Memberships
Shigeru gained his BA in Russian Studies and International Relations from Sophia University in Tokyo and MA in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in Massachusetts, USA, where he specialised in economic development and environmental policies. He qualified as a Coach with The Coaching Academy, the largest coach training organisation in the UK with endorsements from the Open College Network, The Open and Distance Learning Council and The Institute of Leadership and Management. Shigeru is an affiliate member of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting.
